Two Reasons I Use Evernote for my Organizing Business

Before I begin any project, I like to take pictures and write down notes and thoughts. When I got my Samsung Galaxy Phone and Tab, I noticed a program called Evernote and decided to give it try. I love it! There are many uses for Evernote in my life but here are TWO reasons I use it:
1) It is great on a consultation with a client. I can take notes, draw, and take pictures within the notes. Its very organized for me. And its easy for me to go back and find what I'm looking for within that job. I don't have to switch programs to take pics on one thing and notes on another. Its all right there in one!

2) I'm connected!! I downloaded Evernote on my computer and my phone and tab. Everything is in sync and updated at all times. So if I only have my phone and have an idea that i want to write down, I can go on there and write it and save it. Then later when I'm on my computer and I open Evernote, the new additions are there! I can also send my notes via email too. I'm really happy with the program!

One Way To Organize A Kitchen!

There are many ways to organize a kitchen, but here is one way:

If you have another room you can put stuff in ( a dining room table is good, or put down a sheet to place items on), then take everything out of the cabinets and place in the other room. Put like minded things together. All food in one place, all cups in one place, all glasses in another, etc.. As you are doing it, look at the food items expiration dates. If the food item is expired, then throw out immediately (have large, heavy trash bags handy). If a glass is broke or cracked, throw it out. If you don't have a full set of dishes, set aside to give away.

Once you got everything out, you can see WHAT you have and how it will fit back in to your space. AND it will be easier for you to look at your kitchen space and decide how you want the cabinets to be filled. My recommendation, all food and spices in one area and easy to get to. And all glasses and plates in one area and easy to get to. And all pots and pans in one spot. I would do food higher and pots and pans lower. Glasses and plates eye level.

We Can Talk Ourselves Out of Anything

We can talk ourselves out of anything. It doesn't need a lot of words to accomplish. We can talk ourselves out of anything with a few words (thoughts). A million excuses or just one reason can change the course of action. I can relate this to organizing. One minute you are excited to have a nicely organized kitchen. You imagine how easy it will be to find things. You smile at the thought of having the pots and pans in a better and more accessible spot when you are in the middle of cooking. THEN the realization of your CURRENT kitchen situation makes you cringe and the thought of having to DO the work makes you stop in your tracks. Suddenly you forget the warm and exciting feelings you had a few minutes ago. And with a few simple words like: "I cant do it right now" or " I'll get to it someday", you have talked yourself out of organizing.
I invite you to recognize when THAT starts to happen. Acknowledge it. Try not to embrace it. Do your best to stay the course that you are trying to set. The shift in thought doesn't happen overnight but keep trying till you get it! You can do it!

Talk yourself into something!!!!

My 100th Post!

Today is my 100th Post on this blog! On my other blog thesuperorganizeruniverse I hit that mark about in early April. I started THIS blog about a month after I started the other. My idea was to have a spin-off blog to that main one. This was to be a space where I would share quick tips. It wouldn't be a lot of storytelling or commentary on life..just the tips (hence the title of this blog). I wasn't sure how it was going to play out. WIth the other blog, I had a structure and feel that I wanted. This one I did not.

It has been a pleasure writing this blog. I feel BOTH blogs have given me enough space to share what know and learned. I want to thank everyone who reads my posts and those who comment. Once I write something and publish it, I never know how its going to be received. Its been nice hearing from you on Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest. I also want to thank the folks who follow my mini challenges and I hope your life is improved. And thank you for passing on articles for me to read! I like to keep abreast of all things organizing and life coaching!

I can't believe that time has passed where I've written 100 posts on this blog! And I look forward to writing another 100! Thank You so very much!

My Secret Garden

Above is a pic of my indoor herb and vegetable garden. I love it! I used the herb for seasoning my food I cook. One of my plants is Peppermint. Another is Purple Basil. Both make that part of the room smell great!! I suggest to everyone that if you cook or make salads, grow your own little garden. Find a place that gets some sunlight in her home and do it!

You can do seeds (they are not expensive) but what i did was get little plants at my local farmers market (they were 4 for $5). One they came from a local farm ( I like to support local farms.) and they were already started. I talked to the farmer to find which ones were easy to take care of (I know not everyone has a naturally green thumb) I found a great spot and there you go. It beautifies your room. It can smell good. Its fresh and good for you.

I can start organizing___________.

I invited you to think about why you organize or want to get organized. I asked to think about your goals of organization, both big picture and small immediate plans. For me it was: I'm organizing to enjoy my life to the fullest. My goals are to have my office, home and yard organized. My immediate goal is to organize my home office and closets. Okay. That's settled. NOW when can I start???
Getting started is the biggest hurdle! I give tips on this blog and my other blog TheSuperOrganzerUniverse.com on how to start and different techniques and way to start. What I am asking now is WHEN to start? We ALL have busy lives and its easy to say, "I don't have time to organize" or "I'm too tired these days". There is ALWAYS time to organize! You don't have to schedule LARGE chunks of time. I want you to be REALISTIC and HONEST with yourself. When you are those two things, then you can begin to begin.

Start in the summer months? In the Spring for Spring Cleaning? Start of the school year because the kids will be out of the house for 8 hrs a day? Right before a big family holiday like Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas? Maybe during part of your vacation? You take 2 weeks off. One week organize, the other GO on vacation.
Or maybe its THIS weekend? Or TOMORROW? or TODAY????

When can you start organizing??

My Organizing goals are___________.

Yesterday I asked you to think about WHY you organize or want to get organized. Today i am asking you to think about your objectives and goals for organization. If you have nailed down why you want to get organized (For me its to enjoy life to the fullest.), then the next step is to figure out what the goal is! Think of the BIG goals first. Do you want to have an organized office? home? garage? car? Then I suggest thinking of short term goals first  because you don't want to overwhelm yourself. And break it down even smaller but immediate: I would like to have an organized dining  room so that we can eat together as a family. OR I want to organize my garden on the side of the house so that I can sit outside and read my books and enjoy the sun. So you compile a few smaller goals that you can immediate tackle and start. What you may find is that as you handle one goal at a time and finish,  a domino effect will happen and you'll get a lot done.

So what are your organizing goals? Do they fit into your reason to organize?

Our Parent Blog

The Super Organizer Universe

MY LIFE AS A SUPER ORGANIZER

I set up this blog, The Super Organizer Universe: Just The Tips, as a smaller one than the other one I started. This blog is mainly tips and suggestions and things I see that I want to quickly share with you. My other blog, the Parent to this blog if you will, The Super Organizer Universe is a much deeper, longer blog and goes really in depth with various organizing and life coaching categories. I talk about Music, TV, Books, and more on that blog every day. I invite you to check that one out if you haven't already. Make BOTH blogs part of your daily reading and as always I hope you take away something. I want all of you to be organized and living your best lives. Thank YOU!!!

I Want To Get Organized To__________!

I invite each of you think about why you would like to get organized? IF you are already an organized person, why do you stay organized? Its good to know why you are organizing. Its part of your self discovery. Knowing why you want to organize is kind of like having a mission statement in business. It can be a motivational tool. It can be used to keep you on track with your goal. Do you organize because you want to save time, reduce costs, improve self esteem,  or repair a relationship? If you haven't start yet, I suggest you think about it? And if you are already organize, then think about why you do and how it helps you.

My answer: I get organized/ I organize to enjoy my life to the fullest!

It's My Party And I Can...

TOMORROW is my 45th Birthday! At 10:10 pm on May 10th at John Wesley Hospital in Los Angeles, I was born! I usually go on a trip somewhere and celebrate that way. But this year I need to stay in town. Luckily for me my birthday falls on a weekend. A nice weekend. So I decided to do something out of my comfort zone. ( I encourage others to try that every once in awhile.) I decided to throw a small gathering of peeps to celebrate ME! So here's what I decided to do (you may steal this idea if you want):

I booked myself a nice loft suite at a nice hotel in Hollywood. It is also next to the restaurant I want to go for dinner AND near many bars that I  LIKE that we can go to afterwards for drinks. At my suite, I will have drinks and snacks available while people arrive and visit with me in an intimate setting. ( Also if folks need to finish getting ready, the option is there too.) We will visit. Also I wanted to do something funny and childlike YET add an adult twist. I will have a small pinata filled with small plastic bottles of booze in it! (Pictured above) That should be fun to hit and break open after a few REAL big drinks.

Also I went to Party City, 99 Cent Store and a local party place and got some balloon centerpieces (they are a 4 and a 5), Eco friendly plates and utensils and faux fancy plastic glasses. It should all make for a fun night in AND out! It didn't cost me too much and there was no stress setting it up. If you are not a big party person and don't have the funds or time off to go on a big vacations AND you have a small group of friends that you would'nt mind spending YOUR day with AND together, then consider what i'm doing. If all goes well, this could possibly become a tradition....

Roll With It

I'm sharing a technique inspired by one of my clients, that now I employed at home myself: Rolling t shirts in my drawers.

Rolling t shirts is one great way to organize the drawers. I discovered that I could get about a third more T-shirts in a drawer with a fold-and-roll technique. But the best part is that this method keeps logos, patterns, or labels displayed, making it easy for a kid to hunt down that top she so desperately needs on any given day. (adults too)

NOTARY SERVICES

Saturday's Child Works Hard For A Living

The week is over and I gave you five days of tips to Spring Cleaning in a way that doesn't take up much time. I believe that for some people, starting small is a good place to go. It could be a drawer today which could lead to the whole dresser eventually. Doing one side of the closet may inspire you to do the OTHER side of the closet one day. I'm a big believer in small steps leading to big rewards.

Also I know in a world where everyone is busy and organizing and spring cleaning fall by the waste side, that maybe you saw these quick tips as helpful and that you can unclutter in short amounts of time. It may take longer to get to everything but in the big picture any movement is good.  If you haven't gotten a chance or are just hearing about this, then today I invite to go through and read each of my challenges and do them TODAY!. If you have already done each one, then pat yourself on the back and relax!  Good job! I took some of my own advice and did of couple of them myself and I feel good!

Having motivation and keep the momentum going and finding the time can be hard, but it is necessary if you want to live a productive life at home. I'm here and you have my support. AND as always if you need assistance you can contact me at TheSuperOrganizer.com

T.G.I.F.C.

You guys have been great sports this week. And hopefully you took my challenges as helpful suggestions in Spring Cleaning. My goal is to help everyone stay motivated to eradicating clutter in their lives. Its Friday and I have ONE more challenge! The Junk Drawer!

In my other blog The Super Organizer Universe I shared my philosophy that every is allowed ONE junk drawer! Its okay to have a drawer for misc items. NOW 'Im asking you to go to that drawer and clean it out. Chances are the drawer cant close all the way anyway. hehe. I did mine the other day. What to rout is hard to define, so it may take you longer than the other challenges this week. For me it was old sauce packets, some business cards that i know i'll never call, and some actual bits of trash. ALSO I found that extension cord I needed. Now the drawer is ready for more stuff.

Good luck with that one. I know you'll know what to get rid of. You may find something you need NOW. IT will be good! DO IT!!

Mayday Mayday!

Continuing my theme this week, I'm going to challenge you again today on May 1st! Spring is in full effect! Hopefully you have been taking my small steps this week in the Spring Cleaning process. If you haven't I challenge you to go back and do each one! These little steps will do wonders for your space AND they wont take up much of your time! Today's challenge is in the closet!

I want everyone to go to their closets with either clothes or jackets and coats in them. If its a closet with just one bar to hang everything that's what you'll work on. If the closet has multiple sides and bars, just pick ONE side or bar. Then pull out everything that is old, tattered, stains, stretched and if its clothes, you can possibly make them into rags for cleaning  (cotton is great for that) Or throw them out. I'm not one for donating bad clothing. Not nice. OR go through and pick out everything that doesn't fit, or you haven't worn in years. And I mean 3 to 5 years. Give away or donate. Put in a bag immediately for take out.

I do make ONE exception with coats and jackets. IF you REALLY forgot it was back there, then this is a great time to see it. If you really think you will NOW wear it, then rotate it to the front of the line so that it doesn't get lost again. (I have done that with my shoes.)

How does it look in their now? More space? How long did that take you? How does it feel?
Spring cleaning doesnt  have to happen at once for 8 hours. Smaller, quicker cleaning moments work as weel.
