7 Things To Remember When Moving.

• If using a moving company take all of the items you don’t want them packing (undies, financial stuff), box yourself and set aside.  If you have things you are taking with you have them set in an area they won’t get in the way.

• Take the loose items in all of your drawers and put them in a zip lock to bag.  This works especially well for junk drawers.  Then label the bag and put it back in the drawer if you have a moving company.

• Pack heavy items like books in small boxes, and lighter items like blankets and pillows in larger boxes.  While your packing keep in mind that your going to have to lift that box.

• If you are looking for smaller boxes, the produce section of your grocery store usually has banana boxes which work great.

• Pack clothes in suitcases, they are easier to lug around. (Some Tote bags are useful too.)

• Keep a moving journal with all of the phone numbers you may need.  This includes all of the phone numbers to people you may need to contact for change of address, and moving company phone numbers. In that journal keep a list of all your credit card companies, utilities, and bank accounts.  Have the phone number and account number with them for ease of switching everything.

• Label your boxes well if packing yourself.  List the main items in the box and the room they go in.

Handwash No More!

My new favorite item is from Tide! Its their High Performance Delicates Bags. I needed to wash a white stuffed animal and went to look for a mesh bag that can go in the washer and dryer. I went to Big Lots (but i'm sure you can go just about anywhere.) and found them for around 2 bucks!

They are great for your bras, panties, sweaters, blouses, or anything else that needs a delicate touch. You place the items in the bag, zip it up and it allows detergent in and prevents any snags and tears from the spin cycles. I'm a fan!

Today's Travel Tip- Don't Put Certain Items In Your Checked Luggage

I travel a LOT! I have my packing down to a science. If I can, I try to always carry on my luggage. But sometimes you HAVE to check luggage. The rule is to NOT pack anything in your checked luggage that you might NEED while travelling . Do NOT pack anything that is SUPER important to you and you CAN'T afford to lose.

I don't pack medications, jewelry, electronics (and that includes cords and chargers), passport and any other important documents. And of course what ever else YOU feel is important. Sometimes, if i have room, i'll also have an extra t shirt and maybe a pair of underwear. Sometimes luggage gets lost or delayed. You never know,especially during heavy travel times like the summertime what will happen. I say be proactive!

Teaching School Age and Teenage Kids An Organizing Trick

Here is one way to get your kids to "help" in the laundry department (and it helps with their "messy" rooms):

Get a two-compartment laundry hamper OR get two cardboard boxes. Mark one Light (or WHITE) and the other DARK (or COLORS). Or mark one SHIRTS and one PANTS. Or mark one SCHOOL CLOTHES and the other PLAY CLOTHES or PAJAMAS. You get the idea!

It teaches them responsibility and an organizing skill! If you want to have them DO their own laundry, that's another story...

Blender, Toaster, Coffee Maker

Use your kitchen counter tops for ONLY appliances and things that you will use on an EVERYDAY basis! For example I have my Ninja Blender, Toaster, knife block, and utensil holder on my counter. All others are stored in my pantry. I have a couple of shelves dedicated to those items. Meanwhile I have more room on my counter top.

Bathroom Storage- Roll It Up!

There is something that I do in my own bathroom.If you are out of space or need more space in your linen closet, then get a nice basket and take the towels ( it can be hand towels, face towels, or regular bath towels) and roll them up and and place them in the basket and sit the basket near the shower or tub.
I feel it looks nice and decorative and its convenient while you are in the bathroom.

Magnets and Medicine Cabinets

You can put a magnetic strip up in your medicine cabinet. Attach it to the back of the inside of the medicine cabinet door. Then you can hang things like nail clippers, toe clippers, tweezers, small scissors from it!
You can get them at hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowes or from art supply stores like Blick's.
