Don't Have A Cluttered Mind When De-cluttering Your House

When looking at a cluttered space, it would be normal to have a million different things on your mind. Where do I begin? How shall I handle all of this? How long is this going to take? How much can I get done at once?
Before you begin, you want to have a clear mind. It's not easy but it's necessary. Multi-tasking is not encouraged. You want to be focused and handle one thing, one area, one spot at a time. I've been told by a mentor that, "The practice of mindfulness is a continuous process." So work to find ways to clear your mind and create focus.

No Salt!!!!

I've cut Salt mostly out of my life in the context of seasoning my food when cooking. A pinch of salt here and there is okay and even called for in certain recipes. I was taught by a friend who is a good cook that if food is seasoned properly that you don't need salt to make a meal taste good. I agree.

My step dad introduced me to this No Salt Seasoning!! I LOVE IT!! It is versatile and flavorful and mixes well with most things I cook. I'm hooked! Its made up of White corn meal, celery seed, thyme, rosemary, parsley, garlic, onion, cayenne pepper, black pepper, marjoram, citric acid. The amounts of each is not overwhelming or overpowering. I recommend you run out and buy it!!!

If You're Sleepy, Then Go To Bed!

If You are tired, then don't organize. If you are organizing and you're getting tired, then stop organizing.
It's always good to organize when you are wide awake and motivated! So if you are worn out from outside activities, then don't try to clean out a space. If you have been organizing a room for the last six hours and you are genuinely exhausted, then end the session. If you continue, you can seriously hurt yourself (or others) and you won't do a good job. You may miss something important. Stop while you are wanting to continue.

Problems Can Happen And It's OK!

Just know that sometimes while cleaning out and organizing that problems can be unearthed as the layers are peeled back. It's OK!! Getting organized isn't always simple. Getting organized can present unseen issues. I say STOP! Take a deep breath, count to 10, or whatever you need to get calm or stay calm, and take a break. Go back in when you are ready to handle the situation and handle it and move forward. DON'T let it stop you from the ORIGINAL goal and just remember things like this happen.

Why Are You Doing This

Stop and think about WHY you are about to organize. What are the benefits to the space you are wanting to work on? How will cleaning out that certain space help create good in your life?

Remind yourself WHY you are taking on that project. Maybe get post-it's or scratch paper and write down the reasons you are organizing and POST them up where you can see them.

An Old School Way That Can Work!

I go through magazines and newspaper articles and tear and cut out pictures of things I like. Sometimes its a pic of a room I would like one of MY rooms to look like. Other times i have photos of organizing products I want to get. Then I will post them. I have an area with a wall where i post them. You can do it on your fridge. Maybe get an empty paged book and tape them in there. Its a cross between a vision board and reminders of what you want.

It can also be a motivational tool to get you where you want to be! its similar to putting a picture of that red dress you want to fit back into when you are on your weight loss journey. Visuals can really work.

Become More Of Who YOU Are.

The field of life coaching continues to explode. Coaching produces satisfying results for individuals from all walks of life. Corporations, government agencies, educational institutions, and non-profits are discovering the value of coaching for their organizations. I just completed the Life Coaching Certification program with the Coach Training Alliance!

Coaching is also a deeply fulfilling profession that brings a positive impact to people. To coach effectively one has to start.from the center of who they are and connect with the client form an authentic place.
As a professional coach, i'll encourage my clients to be themselves, to expand beyond their limitations, and to become stronger, more alive human beings. Often, clients achieve better results because they have become more of who they are. A positive ripple effect flows from this out to all the relationships connected to that client.

And I'm here to assist you in the process! Goto thesuperorganizer.com for more details and inquiries.

Portable and Cute!

I used to have a huge heavy external hard drive! It was bulky and had too many cords to lug around! I went on Amazon.com  (Best Buy and Ebay had some too.) and found (for a good price) the WD Elements brand of portable, USB plug in external drives! They are sleek and small and there  are many different storage sizes to choose from! They are my new favorites!

That Looks Wierd!

I am a BIG stickler for expiration dates!! I'm kinda OCD about it! Of course I don't suggest any of you become that way but I urge you to check the dates on everything in your home.

Many medicines lose their potency after their expiration date. So no they wont kill you if you take them, but you wont get the desired effect you need.

Sunscreens and other creams should be thrown out after two years.

Some say Perfumes and colognes should be discarded after 3 years. I'm NOT sure if i agree. I have found some to last a long time smelling good. You be the judge.

Food items are the most obvious. You can usually look or smell if they are bad. Fruits, breads, dairy are the easiest to spot.  Boxed and bagged stuff are a little easier too. You can taste stale! Canned goods are a little more difficult. I personally don't mind if they are a few months past. Some say they are just suggested dates. Again I'm OCD about it. But if something expired in early 2013, I'm throwing it out!

Just be aware of what you have in your home. Anytime you ingest anything, you want to be safe!

Repurposing Food

I didn't grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth, it was more like a plastic spork! So I am a fan of leftovers! It can be leftovers from food I made at home or the "doggy bags" from eating out. Sometimes I reheat them as they are and eat. Other times I have taken components from the leftovers and made a whole new meal! Either way its saves money on your food budget!

One problem for me was that sometimes I'd forget one of my leftovers and would find it when it was too late! Dang it!! So I decided to designate a shelf in the refrigerator for all leftovers and its the 2nd shelf for me. I can see most everything and my brain is now programmed to look there. Plus it also keep me in check for how much I can store on that shelf, so the leftovers get rotated out and eaten. Try it!

E-mail Control!

The other day I had 1437 emails!!!! I hadn't had a chance to do my daily email maintenance because of a big jog i had that week. So I began the daunting task of going through them. I have some rules that I go by and want to share with you.

Delete all the junk mail of course! I have a spam folder of course but some emails are flyers and coupons and letters from companies i have rewards programs with.

Read then Delete all email that does not require anything further from me.

Answer each email that does require a response from me.

Only print emails I REALLY need hard copies of. Sometimes I can PDF an email and save it on my computer until I don't need it anymore. THAT saves printing too. Other times I create a folder on my desktop and save certain emails there.

You want to keep email clutter down to a minimum!!

Music To Soothe The Savage Beast

I love music! Music has saved my life on many occasions! Music can get you through tough times. Music can help you get through organizing. The right song, songs, or album can make any task almost enjoyable, well as least bearable. Think about it!

Also see my blog thesuperorganizeruniverse.com. I wrote several blogs on it. I suggest a few albums that I like to organize to.

And One More Thing….

NO!!!!!!!!!

I have a hard time saying NO to fun or educational things. AND  I already have a full plate of stuff going on in my life. So now I practice the suggestion: Before I say yes to another opportunity or responsibility, does it fit into my life right now or will it take away from what I am doing? Then the answer will come to you.

My Middle Name Is Harrison!

HARRISON!!!!!!!

Yesterday, March 10th was Middle Name Pride Day!!! Middle names are tricky. Your middle name usually goes in tandem with your first name. People try to make it have a "ring" to it. Some people like their middle names more than their first and go by that! Others HATE their middle names and hide them. Middle names are great when you want to yell at your children and need to say their WHOLE name to make your point!

I know families where folks are named after each other and the middle names are used to distinguish between them. Then I know people who DON'T have a middle name.....

I'm proud of mine! And celebrate it today and everyday!

What’s Important This Week?

Sometime before Monday morning, figure out what are the most important things for you to do that coming week. What are the highest priorities? It could be school, study time, parent-teacher conference, laundry, free time.  You get the picture. Schedule those first and map those out. Then schedule everything else around those. Especially if free time is a priority, and lets face it sometimes we HAVE to schedule it in, then set that up first!

The Right To-Do List

I like lists! I like to list things out. I like to SEE what needs to be done. But I know that for some people, it would be too much for them to handle. Seeing that looooong list make them tired and Unmotivated! So here’s my tip: Keep To-Do Lists short! List 4 or 5 items only. Looking at a shorter list helps me not feel overwhelmed. You're more likely to accomplish the tasks! And it LOOKS manageable.

One Thing!!!

Either on Sunday night or Monday morning, pick ONE thing to accomplish that week! Write it on a piece of paper or post it note! Stick it where you will see it EVERYDAY! (For those of you in Los Angeles, stick it on your car’s dashboard. Hehe) Then accomplish it!!

First... Unclutter

To begin the organizing process, you must unclutter first. You cannot organize until you sift through and get rid of things that are not useful to your purpose. Its easier to get organized with less stuff. As you begin to ready yourself to organize, take 15 to 20 minutes out of your day to unclutter. Eventually you'll get down to the stuff that stays in that area or room and then you can organize.

Spring Forward Folks!

Remember to turn your clocks, watches, and anything else with time on it forward one hour this Saturday (March 8th) night before you go to bed!!! Daylight savings time starts early March 9th!

I don't like losing an hour! I need all of them! LOL!

I Deserve That

Did you organize today? or last weekend? or last week? Can you finally see that desktop that was buried under papers and books for the last two months? Does the door to your bedroom finally open all the way? YAY!! Congrats to you for taking the time to do something that makes your life better and easier.

You should reward yourself! I like to buy flowers and put them in nice spots in my home. Treat yourself to a mani or pedi! Go get that cupcake you wanted (Sprinkles is my favorite)! Or invite folks into your new uncluttered space and have a few drinks. Do something for yourself that will make you smile.

Good job!

Certain Bills You Don't Need To Keep For Tax Reasons

As you are gathering materials for your tax filing, if you don't need your utility bills ( water, gas, electric) or phone bills, then save only the current months bill. It saves on clutter and its good for reference if you need contact or account numbers.
